Watching.

Finally saw Watchmen yesterday. Brilliant! I think we have ourselves the Blade Runner of our time here, something that might be overlooked or not the giant success they were hoping for right away, but certainly a film that will stand as a pinnacle of sci-fi / superhero movies for decades to come! The shear brilliance in detail, effects and the attention to each individual storyline is absolutely jaw-dropping.

The beauty and surreal world that has been created, populated with magnificent characters and the cleverly referencing of real world events and people is something that a lot of movie makers could learn something from. Off course, the raw material of the film is nothing less than one of the greatest comics of all time, and yet, the film remains true in soul and heart, to it’s epic origin. One top of this is one of the best musical scores I have heard in a long time, as well as top level acting and perfect editing.

The Watchmen will be remembered as one of the truly stunning moments of movie history, and one, that like Blade Runner, shall be watched over and over again by generations to come. Basically, if you haven’t seen it, make sure you do.

Benjamin Button.

Wow. That seems to be the best way of describing this masterpiece of a movie. It is many years since I last saw a film that was so well carried out, both technically and artisticly. And, one that touched me like it did on friday night. The film, apart from it magnificent technical production, flawless script and perfect music, stars Brad Pitt as the films main character, Benjamin, and one of my all time favourite actresses, Cate Blanchett as the love of his life, Daisy.

But besides entertainment, what the film really does, is remind us of how important it is not to cave in and give up even if we aren’t dealt the best set of cards. Even if Button never set out to be great or achieve big things, and he didn’t, not in the conventional manner anyway, he did things that to him were great enough, he lived a good life even though he knew it was to be an incredibly sad ending at the end of it… he walked away from his lifes soulmate so that she could be happy even after he was gone. He learned to love so much, that he sacrificed his own love for his loved one. And yet, he moved on, he saw the world and didn’t let himself fall victim to anger or sorrow. A lesson is to be learned then, from this curious character that is Benjamin Button; we don’t know what’s comming our way, but the only thing we can do about it, is our best.

It’s a good film year I reckon, and now Watchmen’s out as well!
