This gathering of thoughts, ideas and strange development projects is the website of Hans Peter Jenssen, or HP for short as most people calls me. I am a freelance lighting and media designer and programmer living in Oslo, Norway, but work tends to take me to all the corners of the world (almost).

This is the ongoing website project commonly referred to as HP’s universe, or universe for short. This website has been in existence in some form since 2001, and the content, concept and general idea has developed with it, but since 2004 it has been about my writing, my thoughts and the philosophical banter that I come up with. This is universe version 8.1. It is only since version 7 that it has been database backed and build on WordPress, and now, for the first time since version 3, it is only a single-language site. This is a nescesary compromise on avoiding DB duality, time consuming updating and a lot more.

My life’s passion and main field of interest is performance lighting design and programming, be it live music shows, television, corporate events, touring gigs or festivals. I work full time for Norwegian company AVAB CAC as a project manager, in addition I undertake freelance jobs as a lighting designer and technical manager for select projects each year. I am also principal designer and one of the founders of internatioanl design studio Empty Room Studios.

When not working, I thinker with WordPress and other php apps as well as stuff that involves XML and SQL interfacing to web. Computers have been my way for many years, especially webdesign and coding for web, but it was not until 2003 – 4 I started doing anything you might call professional. Today I maintain this as a “professioal hobby” – I don’t make a living solely out of webdesign, but it is something I enjoy and when a decently interesting project comes up, I’m not the one to pass it over. To demonstrate what is possible with WordPress as a low cost CMS platform, I started the WSS projects some years ago, the point is to deploy WordPress installations and give the advantages of a database backed webstite to small organisations and companies that normally can not afford to implement large scale and expensive CMS platforms.

I am no photographer, but photography is also a major hobby of mine, and I try to maintain a fairly up to date gallery online.

Another passion of mine is food, the cooking and enjoymet of decent and good hand-cooked food along with wines and other beverages of exceptional quality. One of my best friends trained as a chef, now moved onto engineering, but I think some of the inspiration came from him! My grandfather was also a master of food, and I remember following him into the kitchen from when I was quite young. I have no one single favourite dish, but I make a decent bolognese and will take a stab at anything that’s up. Have you ever tried smoked salmon, crispy bacon and apple jam for example?
